Everyone says money won't make you happy and they're right, but it does upgrade the backdrop of the misery considerably. Bigger question for the thread: at what comp number did the marginal dollar actually stop moving the needle on your life? Trying to figure out what I'm grinding toward.
For me the needle stopped moving once rent, savings, and "yes to the dinner without checking the bill" were covered. Everything past that bought a nicer cage, not a key.
The honest answer is the number keeps moving because the peer group keeps moving. The only way to win is to stop playing that specific game. Easier typed than done.
"Stop playing that specific game" is free to say when you've already won it. For those of us mid-table the number very much still moves the needle.
Miserable in a nice apartment beats miserable in a bad one, but it's still the misery doing the heavy lifting in that sentence. Fix that part too.
